The curtain rises on Cherry Tucker’s debut as a high school set designer at the posh Peerless Day Academy. Cherry’s been hired for an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, but the drama director is hoping Cherry can also turn the spotlight on a malicious social media bully who’s sending poisonous texts to the faculty. The director’s got his own drama to hide, and the phantom texter seems eager to spill school secrets. When the principal’s secretary commits suicide, Cherry suspects foul play.

With Deputy Luke Harper ready to return as Cherry’s leading man, he’s eager to assist in finding the phantom culprit, but Cherry fears family secrets offstage may doom them to the role as star-crossed lovers. With the bully waiting for a murderous encore and her own family skeletons to hide, Cherry scrambles to find her brother and the mysterious texter before the phantom decides its curtains for Cherry and forces her to take a final bow.

The fourth book in the bestselling Cherry Tucker Mystery series. "Delightfully Southern, surprisingly edgy, and deliciously unpredictable." --Hank Phillipi Ryan

Georgia Author of the Year Nominee

I'm so honored to have HIJACK IN ABSTRACT (Cherry Tucker #3) included in the year's nominees for Georgia Author of the Year. This is the 50th Annual GAYA award, so the nomination makes it all the more special.
To see the press release flyer go here: http://bit.ly/QHSvxa

My fingers are crossed, but I'm not holding my breath. The list for fiction includes a few mystery writer friends who I'll also root for GAYA winner. To be a nominee is thrilling in itself. Unfortunately, I'll be in Japan during the banquet and will miss the official announcement. My congratulations to everyone nominated for author of the year. Georgia has a such a rich history of writing and I'm so honored to be included. I love living and writing in Georgia and particularly love setting my stories here.

The curtain rises on Cherry’s debut as a high school set designer at the posh, private Peerless Day Academy. Cherry’s been hired to design scenery for an avant garde adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, but the theater teacher's hoping Cherry can also turn the spotlight on a malicious bully who’s sending poisonous texts to the faculty. The director’s got his own drama to hide, and the phantom texter seems eager to spill school secrets. When a school secretary's death is ruled a suicide, Cherry suspects foul play. The phantom bully may be using blackmail to rid the school of unwanted staff, urging a Montague-Capulet styled showdown.

With Deputy Luke Harper wanting to return as Cherry’s leading man, he’s eager to assist her efforts in fingering the phantom culprit, but Cherry fears family secrets may doom them to the role of star-crossed lovers. Offstage, Cherry’s searching for her missing brother who’s fixed on a vendetta against Luke’s stepfamily, so she instead turns to the local, foreign racketeer, Max Avtaikin, for assistance. With the bully waiting for a murderous encore and her own family skeletons to hide, Cherry scrambles to find her brother and the mysterious texter before the phantom decides its curtains for Cherry and forces her to take a final bow.

New Title for Cherry Tucker! THE BODY IN THE LANDSCAPE

Death in Perspective, Cherry Tucker #4, doesn't release until June, yet here we are announcing the title for #5! Welcome to the revolving door of publishing!

My editor at Henery Press and I are so excited to announce the title for #5, The Body in the Landscape, which will be out in 2015. The setting for this Cherry Tucker mystery is at a hunting lodge, allowing Cherry to paint en plein air among plenty of weapons, suspects, and motives for murder. This weekend my family and I are headed to Flat Creek Lodge for a research trip. The mystery won't be set at Flat Creek (which is about an hour from Savannah), but they have graciously agreed to let me pester them for inside information on running the lodge (and hopefully don't mind a few questions about the best places to hide a body).

Have any of you vacationed at a hunting lodge? Any good stories you want to share or some insider tips that might be helpful for my research?

DIYing Heroine Fashion

The heroine of the Cherry Tucker Mystery series is an artist. Actually a classically trained portraitist, from a small, Southern country town called Halo. Her tough, redneck roots and creative ingenuity help her solve crimes, attract the wrong sort of men, and outfit herself in themed outfits. As an artist, she’s always broke, but with her penchant for interesting dress, Cherry uses her DIY craft skills to match her wardrobe to her personality.

In Hijack in Abstract, her third mystery, Cherry wears a variety of DIY clothing. I thought I’d share the outfits, but show how a real DIYer could use Cherry’s crazy ideas to make their own unique embellishments.

Why Small Town, Georgia?

Choosing Small Towns For a Setting

When I began writing my first Cherry Tucker mystery, PORTRAIT OF A DEAD GUY, I was living in Japan. My family and I enjoy living overseas, and we loved Nagoya, Japan. However, while living in Japan I didn’t feel pulled to write a story that took place in the city and country we habitually explored. I felt compelled to write about our other home in Georgia. Specifically, small town Georgia (as I’m a small town girl). That’s how my brain works. It never makes things easy for me.

Stubborn Heroines - Hijack in Abstract by Larissa Reinhart

Stubborn as a Virtue.
My mother always complained about my bullheadedness. I’m horribly stubborn. Slice off my nose to spite my face stubborn. Make my jaw ache from gritting my teeth stubborn. It’s a major character flaw in what could be a sunny personality. It drives my husband batty. It ticks off my sister. It prevents me from seeing all sides to an argument.
So why do we like our heroines to be stubborn? We also like them to be smart, enterprising, courageous, and hopefully, beautiful (without them knowing it, of course). But stubborn? That ain’t no virtue. Ask my mother. It’s not pretty to see a girl with a steely set to her jaw and daggers in her eyes.
