We throw stereotypes around within closed doors (or narrow borders) and those statement come out in every day conversation without thinking. I will also say I experienced this more when I was younger. In later years, when I lived abroad, I didn't see it so much. Personally, my dad always told me, if any two people work hard enough they can always find something to talk about. I have found him to be right in this. Thanks, Sabrina.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9159941990606808042.post-70481045276782692362012-09-07T07:20:31.456-04:002012-09-07T07:20:31.456-04:00Thanks for stopping by Arlee. I often do that in my mind, but I'm always willing to give people a chance when it comes to a one on one encounter and have frequently found a reward in doing so. People are just people when it comes down to the basics.

Lee
A Faraway View
Arlee Birdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11663942782929929334noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9159941990606808042.post-63717340483849377152012-09-06T11:50:52.670-04:002012-09-06T11:50:52.670-04:00Thanks for stopping by, Wren!

I have friends I'm still close to (partially thanks to Facebook), that I met while living abroad and we had only known each other for few months to a year. Those kinds of circumstances can make you close. And you always have Paris.. In some cases, it means learning to make friends with people who are different because connection is more important than difference. When I got that, it frees creativity and made me bolder.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9159941990606808042.post-15930686682531217362012-09-05T19:24:09.004-04:002012-09-05T19:24:09.004-04:00Thanks Terri and thanks Larissa for hosting me. I enjoyed writing this now that I have distance and can really view think through how my experience abroad changed my perspective on things and strengthened some, at that time, nascent talents. Since it was in junior year, i suddenly realized that at any time we might be thrown back into freshman status! that's real life baby. There's something about loneliness that goes hand in hand with some art like Elliot Smith, I think it's a healthy experience.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10813552261016651108noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9159941990606808042.post-15451763084762956292012-09-05T09:22:22.982-04:002012-09-05T09:22:22.982-04:00Thanks for stopping in Terri! Makes you more aware of your own nationality, too. I still feel like I don't have a niche, but time helps me to be okay with that. However, I think that's why my family likes to keep moving overseas.Larissa Reinharthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02483331518276860201noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9159941990606808042.post-14026844163578576672012-09-05T08:09:46.379-04:002012-09-05T08:09:46.379-04:00I loved this post.
